No Needle, No Stitch, No Patch Cataract Surgery
In this advanced surgical technique, the clouded lens is removed but without the need for deep IV sedation, needles, stitches or eye patches.
No Needle, No Stitch, No Patch Cataract Surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure.
- Only numbing eye drops (for some patients light sedation may be used)
- No stitches are necessary to close the incision
- No eye patch is required
- Little or no postoperative drowsiness or unsightly ocular bruising occurs
- Without a needle injection and without the need for deep IV sedation the accompanying risk of damage to the eye, the eye muscles and the eyelids is avoided and so too is the potential rare but serious risk of systemic complications.
The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye. Dr. Lipstock uses a microscopic ultrasonic probe that dissolves the clouded lens with sound waves so it can be gently washed away. This is known as phacoemulsification. After the short procedure you are free to leave the surgery suite and enjoy the rest of the day.
No Needle, No Stitch, No Patch Cataract Surgery is the most patient friendly, stress-free, efficient cataract removal technique available today.
Dr. Lipstock is one of the only surgeons in Richmond who routinely performs this advanced form of cataract surgery, and he has performed it on thousands of happy patients.
